The application and required materials will be scored for references, related experience, and interest by the Selection Committee. All qualified applicants will receive a letter to schedule testing and personal interviews. All applicants who score 80 percent and above will be placed in the, "Pool of Eligibles." The top candidates from the Pool of Eligibles may be invited to participate in a Safety and Orientation Week at our training site in Ellensburg, located in Central Washington. This week is an opportunity for the applicants to get to know the basics of the trade and to be evaluated by the training staff. Room and board are provided. The top applicants may be required to attend eight additional weeks of training in Ellensburg prior to being indentured as apprentices and dispatched on their first job. Again, room and board are provided. In addition, you may be eligible to receive unemployment compensation while you are at the Training Site. However, we do not pay you to attend training. Upon completion of the eight (8) week course, you will be placed on the “out of work” list. Since the work outlook is uncertain, your initial job dispatch will depend upon the amount of work available in the construction industry at that time. Applicants selected will be required to join the Operating Engineers Union after being dispatched.
Applicants who score 80 percent and above who are not selected from the Pool of Eligibles must re-apply before the next interview in order to maintain their eligibility. Applicants not meeting the 80 percent score may request a consideration for re-interview form after a period of six months from their last interview.
